The fire showed very plainly and showed to be a very large one.

Since then we have learned that it was hay stacks on the big marsh. It has been estimated that nearly or quite one hundred tons of hay was consumed, and thattheamount would have been greater, if there had have been a high wind, but, as it was comparatively calm, several stacks did not that, otherwise would have been consumed, it is thought by persons who have been on the grounds, that there is no doubt but it is the work of an incendiary, and was fired for revenge. Among those who are losers by the fire, are Mr. Joseph Springer of Lone Pine, Mr. Thomas Smith, Messrs.

Ed. Smith and Jack Worden, Ezra Achilles and other persons whose names have been reported but forgotten but who did not loose so large an amount as those named. It is said that Mr. Springer lost 9 large stacks out of 15. Mr.

Smith (Thos.) was the next largest luser. It is said that Mr. Smith had had a law suit with some person regarding his hay and had won the suit. When the loser of the case made the remark that thehay would not dt Smith any good.
